Paper written in for the Technoetic Telos: Art, Myth and Media Conference held in Kefalonia, Greece (i-Node). A paper that allowed me to explore the role of technology culture and science fiction in Afrofuturism and how the idea’s developed in the 90′s in the African Diaspora are being explored in contemporary African arts and music practices. Paper was published in the Technoetic Arts Journal, Volume 10, Issue 1.

We Want the Funk: What is Afrofuturism to the Situation of Digital Arts in Africa.

Abstract: This paper explores African digital culture from the Disapora through Afrofuturism. It reflects on the methods and situations of Afrofuturism, as a mechanism to take a closer look at the concerns of African Digital Arts and Culture practice in the context of Globalisation and global forms. The primary focus in on understanding technology arts practice in Africa and the issues that may surround it.
